Let Me Explain...Shoe Edition

Shoes- every girl loves them.  I don't care what type of girl you are or what kind of shoes you like but it's inherently in our DNA to have a strong appreciation for the art on our feet.  That's a fact.  Girls, you may act like your not "superficial" and don't believe in spending $800 on your shoes.  That's fine.  Steve Madden etc. has shoes that make you look great for 3/4 less money and those are the shoes you gravitate toward- the ones that make you look hot.  Whether you spend $800 or $15, you are a female and you care about the shoes on your feet.  Shoe appreciation comes at all price points and all styles.

My father often says- "Why do you buy these 5 inch heels, you cant even walk in them!" This is true.  He's someone, however, who can benefit from this blog.  While these 5 inch heels may kill my feet, cramp my legs, cause some back pain and often times make me eat pavement- their benefits far out way their negatives.  Here are some examples of the magical powers to behold in a great pair of shoes...

1. If you are a short girl like myself, especially one who has some unwanted pounds lurking around, these high heels are magical.  They elongate your legs- who doesn't love that- and they make you appear taller and therefore slimmer- success.

2.  If you are a tall girl who doesn't want to appear taller, the flats of today are for you.  All designers have jumped on the flats bandwagon to make some of the hottest shoes out there.  This is a beautiful thing for you.  You can wear a hot shoe and not appear taller then most in the room.  Even us short girls love a good flat- they are a way in which we can dress up a casual day look.

3. A pair or great shoes that you love and took the time to pick out, elicit confidence.  There is nothing that a woman in a great pair of shoes cant handle.  She knows she looks good, she knows her shoes are garnering positive attention and she can harness that to make the powerful moves she needs to get ahead in her day.

4. This one is the kicker- the most magical power any shoe could ever posses!  They can actually cause you to get a compliment from- gasp- another female!  In most cases, females outside of your circle are routing for your fiery demise.  Throw a great shoe in the mix and a female will actually stop another one not to claw her eyes out but to compliment her shoes and ask where she might be able to purchase a fabulous pair for herself.  You're so taken off guard/flattered by her genuine compliment that you actually tell her where she too might be able to find them.  Seconds later the universe realigns itself but for that fleeting moment, the shoes brought you together.

What can you take away from all of this?  Why are women so enamoured with their shoes?  Shoes are works of art, they flatter us in the best ways, they give us confidence to power through our days, they make female strangers brief friends and allys and overall they are just fabulous.  So go out and treat yourself to those shoes you have been thinking about for the past week!  Men- you can too- you might just understand where we women are coming from!

Arnold Schwarzenegger Fathered a Love Child...

...Well no shit!  I know I'm late to the party on this one but please dont tell me you are shocked by this "revelation."  You couldn't have thought that Arnold, the Terminator, The Govenator, the man accused of sleeping with half of the hemisphere and groping the other half throughout his life, was a doting, faithful husband!

I do feel sorry for Maria Schriver and especially the children.  But that woman is a Kennedy!  She hails from a family with more mistress controversies then any I've ever heard of.  Her uncle's mistress was Marilyn Monroe for Christ sake.  You can not convince me that she did not know what was going on with goold old Arnie.  She knew he was cheating on her, she knew he had a groping issue and she also knew she wanted to be first lady of California.  And so she dealt with it.

Maria Shriver is no idiot.  She worked as a journalist and interviewed Fidel Castro!  She is an author of six best selling books!  She knows her stuff, she's perseptive and that doesent go away.  Maybe she thought she could change Arnold.  Maybe she really dosent give a shit that he cheated.  I'll give her the fact that she probably didnt assume Arnold would cheat on her with that nanny of theirs- have you seen her?  If not get out from under your rock (and check out the picture above).  I think what set Maria over the edge, of course, was the child "she didnt know about" that was running around her home getting confused with her and Arnold's own son they had around the same time. Rightttttt......  So I'll pose this thought/question: Maybe "love" really does trick our minds into becoming clueless or maybe power clouds our thought process and makes us not care about how we are being treated as long as we have the status we desire?  Share your thoughts on this controversial subject.

My Personal Space

Let me paint you a picture.  You are standing in a public bathroom.  Annoying enough right?  You just braved the petri dish that is the ladies room stall and you are about to wash your hands.  You are already feeling violated and cant wait to be done with this experience.  You turn the sink on and you notice from the corner of your eye that someone is approaching your personal space at rapid speed.  Your eyes widen as this person comes closer and closer, right to the sink next to yours!  Now, when all other sinks are taken this action is regrettable but understandable.  However, when you are in a bathroom with six sinks and the only one that is occupied is the one you are washing your hands at, there is no excuse for this serious space invading behavior.  As I put on my Facebook status a few weeks ago, "When there are 6 sinks in a public bathroom, I'm at one and the other 5 are open and you come to the sink next to me, I think you are rude and have no regard for others personal space."  I firmly believe this to be true and can't understand for the life of me why no one else seems to share this sentiment!

Why am I so bothered by this?  A- because I don't want strangers closer to me then they need to be and B-because it constantly happens to me in the ladies room.  And to make it worse, it's usually the same people who are guilty!  Once and a while you have a lapse of judgement but all the time?!  Do you think that I want to be inches away from someone I barely know, who is glancing my way in the mirror to sneak at peak at what I'm doing- I'm clearly washing my hands.  It is awkward and uncomfortable.  This isn't just something that happens in the ladies room though.  I have heard stories of men who choose to use the urinal next to someone else when there are clearly others available far, far away. Weird!  And it's not just in the bathroom that this can occur.  Personal space invaders are lurking in the corners everywhere you go!  This blog is not only to vent a constant frustration I experience as a result of being invaded, but it is also to implore the people out there that are guilty of this, and you know who you are, to please back off!  I promise you it will be ok if you move just one sink over, choose a further urinal or stand a reasonable distance from me when we are having a conversation.  I promise you, the world and I will thank you for this consideration!

Leave a comment if you agree, disagree, had this happen to you or are a space invader yourself- I'd love to know why!

My First Blog Post!

I'm excited to begin this blog.  I'm opinionated and I love to write.  There is no better remedy to these ailments then a web-log or blog for short (I learned that blog is short for web-log while googling how to make a blog lol).  Some of my posts may be wordy, some may be short and sweet.  Some, probably most!, will be complaints or things that I believe to be common sense but others don't seem too.  (None of my complaints or issues are meant to be malicious.)  Some will be things that inspire me or make me happy.  Some may be about goals I have set for myself and the steps I'm taking to meet them.  Some may be about my current hobbies or new hobbies I'll be trying. There will be no real topic that I will stick to.  I will just speak my mind and see where this takes me.

Overall I'm looking at this as a fun hobby and a cathartic writing experience.  At 23 im still trying to find my passion in life and figure out "what I want to be when I grow up."  Maybe this can help get me there!  I hope everyone who comes across this blog enjoys reading it as much as I will enjoy writing it!
